BG IMS - Inspection Management Software

1. Introduction:
IMsoft is inspection management software for petrochemical industries which is used to automate the inspection of equipments and other important criteria like NDT, Corrosion, RBI etc.

2. Objective:
This document provides all the features of Inspection Management Software.

3. Features Overview:
The IMsoft introduces 5M for the inspection process which has got 5 modules, from initial analysis to detailed reports with recommendations.

a) Management Module:
Module I is Management module where all the inspection related details will be stored.
This module provides the details for collecting information and data collection for a Unit.
User will first define the setup which includes,

  • Unit history: The earlier details of inspection for unit can be viewed andmaintain unit history card.
  • Equipments: There may be several equipments in an Unit for which inspection to be carried out. Module I make this step easy because it provides user important forms which make him to carry inspection easily.
  • Like for equipment user can fill the details like Data card, History card, drawing such as general arrangement drawings, Thickness records,
    checklist and other details.
  • Details for safety valves (PSV and TSV).
  • For piping also user can manage data card, history card, piping circuits, checklist etc.
  • User will define process which includes, Shutdown i.e planned/ breakdown/ short term/ Maintenance and Inspection shutdown reports.
  • Inspection frequencies
  • Failure analysis
  • Mails linking to the concerned inspection person Alerts
  • Database maintenance
  • View earlier reports
  • Offsite reports
  • Routine inspection
  • Pending recommendations

b) Maintenance Module:
Module II is maintenance module which mainly focuses on NDT (Non Destructive Testing) process. Nondestructive testing - NDT - use test methods to examine an object, material
or system without impairing its future usefulness. Non-destructive testing is often required to verify the quality of a product or a system. It is used to find, locate size or determine the flaws in the object & to decide whether the flaws are acceptable or not. Salient features are,

  • Various NDT techniques like Visual testing, Radiography testing etc for the imperfections like service induced or manufacturing defects or welding defects etc.
  • Define and the agencies for the NDT techniques and have mailconversation.
  • Request for services
  • Request for needs and requirements

c) Modification Module:
Module III is modification module which mainly focuses on welding process. Welding is a fabrication or sculptural process that joins materials, usually metals or thermoplastics, by causing coalescence. This module makes it easy by covering all aspects of welding.
Salient features are,

  • Welding for the particular equipment like piping welding, column welding, vessel welding etc.
  • Selection of welding materials.
  • Selection of welding type like MMAW (Manual Metal Arc Welding), TIG(Tungsten Inert gas) welding, Define joint geometry like root gap, root face, bevel etc.
  • Defining welders and tracking
  • Electrode selection
  • Preheat selection
  • Welding parameter selection
  • Heat treatment requirement selection
  • Quality checking
  • Recommended practices

d) Measuring module:
Module IV is measuring module which mainly focuses on Corrosion process. Salient features,

  • Corrosion measurement
  • Inhibitors
  • Corrosion monitoring
  • T-min calculations
  • Prevention
  • Agencies
  • Retiring thickness

e) Monitoring module:
Module V is monitoring module which mainly focuses on RBI (Risk Based Inspection) process. RBI (Risk-Based Inspection) is a process that identifies, assesses and maps industrial risks (due to corrosion and stress cracking), which can compromise equipment integrity in both pressurized equipment and structural elements. RBI addresses risks that can be controlled through proper inspections and analysis. It involves lot many operations because it is very critical part of inspection management. Salient features:

  • Selection of RBI types i.e Qualitative, Quantitative or semi quantitative.
  • RBI planning which involves initial screening like established physical boundaries/established operating boundaries, Objectives and goals of RBI, estimation of resources and time required for RBI
  • Data information and collection which comes from all the other fourmodules like inspection results, offsite records, failure data, site conditions, equipment replacement etc.
  • Defining deterioration mechanisms and failure modes like internal/external thinning, stress corrosion cracking, Metallurgical or environmental effects, Mechanical failures, other kind of failures like pressure relief failure etc.
  • Assessing Probability of failure (POF) – here user will define active and credible deterioration mechanisms, susceptibility and rate, failure mode, effectiveness of past inspection program, calculating POF depending upon the type of RBI
  • Assessing Consequences of failure (COF) – here user will define units of measure for the COF like whether it is safety, cost effective, environmental damage etc, what are the volumes of fluid released, consequence categories like flammable events, toxic release, production consequence etc.
  • Risk determination and assessment- Here user can calculate the risk by knowing POF and COF and have the facility to present it in Risk matrix or Risk plot. Also define acceptable risk threshold.
  • Managing risk with inspection activities
  • Risk mitigation where user can define whether the equipments replaced or repaired, evaluating flaws, reducing inventory etc.
  • Reassessment and updating RBI assessment where the pending RBI can be tracked and managed.
  • Defining the team, their responsibilities.
  • Maintain the whole RBI process in a systematic report.

4. Unique features:
IMsoft has its unique features which makes it best inspection management software.

  • Compatible tool where user has the facility to sketch the drawings and uploading the same.
  • Drawing can be viewed in AutoCAD tool.
  • List of Inspection instruments with Vendor details.
  • Inspection planning, alerts for due inspection dues
  • Communicating with SAP also

5) Conclusion:
Inspection Management software automates the various activities performed in petrochemical industries in order to optimize the use of resources, performs and gives the accurate inspection results. It has very secured database facility with user authentication facility. Communicates with CAD tools and SAP which differentiate IMsoft from other inspection applications.
